Alpha-lipoic acid (LA), has been shown in animal tests to slow down the process of aging
What is lipoic acid?
It’s a fatty acid that is an essential cofactor for several processes that relate to energy production and detoxification.
Why does it matter to me?
In test tubes lipoic acid is has been shown to be a potent antioxidant (cleanses and repairs)
In animal experiments it appears to slow down the process of aging - see link below
"The evidence suggests that lipoic acid is actually a low-level stressor that turns on the basic cellular defences of the body, including some of those that naturally decline with age," said Tory Hagen, an LPI researcher and associate professor of biochemistry and biophysics at Oregon state university."
Oregon state university researchers believe that lipoic acid kick starts cells to regain the functions they had naturally in youth.
How can I get some?
Lipoic acid is present in almost all foods, but more so in kidney, heart, liver, spinach, broccoli and yeast extract.
