Method

Simply follow our simply laid out recipe:

1) Heat the butter or oil in a flame-proof casserole.
2) Add the onion and fry for 3-4 minutes.
3) Add the meat and fry until lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
4) Stir in the flour and salt and pepper. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
5) Gradually add the stock, stirring continuously and scraping any sediment from the bottom of the casserole.
6) Add bay leaves, bring to the boil, cover and cook over a very low heat for 1½ hours.
7) Add the carrots to the casserole, stir well and cook for 1 hour.
